These commandments were delivered to the people of Israel and the mixed multitude that came out of the Egypt with them1. They have provided structure and order for the lives of hundreds of millions of people since they were given by G-d at Mount Sinai over three thousand years ago. There is abundant life and blessing for those who would seek to glorify G-d by obeying His instruction2.
As G-d, Himself, declared:
For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life. (Deuteronomy 32:47a)
The Hebrew word mitzvot is often translated as "commandment" but it actually comes from the root word tzavta which means "connection". Our Maker has given us instructions for living a life that is set apart from the average and mundane... a life that is set apart and connected to Him.
