The Literal Commandment
You shall be holy men to Me, therefore you shall not eat any flesh torn to pieces in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs." (Exodus 22:31)
The literal commandment is that we should not eat any flesh torn to pieces in the field.
Messiah Says
Messiah implicitly affirmed this commandment when He spoke about the Law:
"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19)
Pictures of Messiah
Messiah was not torn in His death... He was pierced but was still whole.
When Peter declares that Messiah is the Holy One of G-d (John 6:69), he is essentially saying that Messiah is the "set-apart" One of G-d.
Peter later writes:
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."
G-d has given us a simple way to be more like Messiah... to be holy like He is holy: don't eat any flesh torn to pieces in the field.
How Messiah Fulfilled
We know that Messiah did not sin (Hebrews 4:15) and so we know Messiah fulfilled this commandment by not eating any flesh torn to pieces in the field.
Traditional Observance
Traditional observance of this commandment is found in its literal sense: not eating any meat that was torn by wild animals.
Other Notes
We are able to fulfill this commandment today and should not eat any flesh torn to pieces in the field.
